The Susanville Symphony Society is not just an outstanding orchestra, it is a service organization. As part our mission, the Symphony is to serve as an educational resource to the community. To this end, there exists:
The Susanville Symphony Youth Orchestra: A Symphony for All Ages. Conducted by Susanna Blackwood, the orchestra serves as the training ground for Symphony musicians of the future. In its first season 55 developing musicians of all ages came together for a sold-out concert at Richmond School. This year's season begins its rehearsals in October.
The Victor Sainte-Marie Scholarship Fund was named in honor of the late founder of the Symphony Society, and has sent young musicians to summer camps, aided students off to college, and assisted local musicians with private music lessons.
The Master Class Series features professional musicians from the Reno Philharmonic. Local musicians get to spend a whole day immersed in the study of their instrument with some of the finest musicians the Western States have to offer.
The Instrument Loan and Repair Program exists to ensure that everyone in the greater Lassen County community who wishes to play an instrument can achieve that dream. The Symphony is receiving donations of instruments and providing badly needed repairs to school music programs' existing instruments.
If you have an instrument to donate, or wish to contribute to the "Music in the Schools Program" please email us at instruments@susanvillesymphony.com |
